Education

Part of the work of Folktinget is to ensure that the linguistic rights of the Swedish-speaking population are met within the education sector.

This is what Folktinget does in education:etta gör Folktinget inom utbildningen:

  • monitors the education situation in Swedish-speaking Finland,
  • takes initiatives in education issues affecting Swedish in Finland,
  • maintains contact with educational actors and authorities in the education sector,
  • monitors the teaching of Swedish as a second national language.

Folktinget has an Education Committee that:

  • monitors education in Swedish in Finland,
  • monitors the interests of the Swedish-speaking population in the educational sector,
  • prepares statements on current legislative proposals in the education sector that affect the Swedish-speaking population.

Education is a prerequisite for preserving and passing on one’s own language to future generations.
