This is what Folktinget does internationally:
- Folktinget establishes good and close contacts with organisations and representatives of Finnish and Swedish speakers in Sweden,
- Folktinget is a full member of the European Network to Promote Linguistic Diversity, NPLD which works for the linguistic rights of minorities in Europe,
- Folktinget is also a supporting member in the Federal Union of European Nationalities, FUEN that gathers approximately 100 member organisations in 38 countries,
- Folktinget is also actively involved in the reporting processes for the implementation of the Council of Europe (CoE) conventions on minorities and languages, mainly the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages and the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities,
- Folktinget regularly organizes international webinars and conferences to exchange experiences and information.
Folktinget also receives cooperation requests from the Parliament and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, asking Folktinget to give presentations on the country’s bilingualism and on its own activities.
