Administration

Folktinget works to ensure that the linguistic rights of the Swedish-speaking population are safeguarded in central and local governments and in the courts.

This is what Folktinget does in administration::

  • monitors that language rights are taken into account in legislative drafting and reform projects,
  • is used as a consultation body and submits statements to ministries and parliamentary committees,
  • co-operates with actors in central and local government.

Folktinget has an administrative committee that:


  • prepares statements for ministries and parliamentary committees when language rights should be taken into account in legislative drafting and reform projects,
  • prepares letters and appeals to draw the attention of authorities to issues of particular importance to language rights,
  • consults experts from ministries and their administrative areas in connection with the committee’s meetings.

Folktinget actively works to ensure access to public safety services in Swedish. This has, among other things, resulted in the launch of a Swedish-language firefighter training program in August 2022, after a 10-year hiatus.
